Regular Season Almost Over

There are only 4 games remaining in the 2006 regular season. After 158 games, our record is 96-62. This guarantees that we'll finish 2006 with a better record than 2005. We have a 3 game winning streak going now. If we win the next 4 games, we'll have a 100 win season. Also at this moment, we have the best record in all of baseball. We're still battling for homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. I'll post another update in the next few days.

2006 AL East Champions!!!!!

The yankees have won their 9th straight AL east championship tonight. They lost to the blue jays 3-2, but the twins defeated the red sox 8-2 to eliminate them from the divsion and give us the title.

This is our 15th division title in franchise history, our 9th straight, and 10th in the last 11 years. We are going to the postseason for the 12 consecutive year. The players were just celebrating in the clubhouse, and all yankee fans are looking forward to the postseason. The quest for a 27th world championship will begin on October 3rd.

We're on the brink

Tonight, the red sox were defeated by the twins 7-3, and we beat the blue jays 6-3, which eliminated them. Our magic number is now just 1. Any yankee win or red sox loss this year will give new york their 9th straight AL east championship. We'll try for a clinch tomorrow. I'll post about it as soon as it happens.

Division title in sight

Since my last post, the yankees swept the devil rays, and then split a doubleheader with the red sox yesterday. Today, there will be another doubleheader with boston. These are the last games against them this year. Our magic number is currently 4. If we win both games today, and the blue jays lose their game vs. the devil rays, then we will win the AL east tonight. Even if we don't win today, we should win in the next few days. I'll post another update soon.

Yankees return home

After finishing a 7 game road trip where they went 5-2, the yankees return to yankee stadium to play 7 games in 6 days. First, we'll face the devil rays for a 3 game series. Then, we play a 4 game set against the red sox, with a doubleheader on the 2nd day. After that, we'll play 3 games in toronto, then our final off day, then 4 in st. petersburg vs. the devil rays, then we come home for 3 against the orioles and blue jays to wrap up the season.

Ou magic number is now 10. Very soon, we can clinch the division for the 9th consecutive year. If we go at least 14-6 in these final 20 games, we'll have a 100+ win season. It's unlikely, yet possible. Right now the yankees are focusing on clinching the division so they can start resting players and preparing for the playoffs.

Tonight, Hideki Matsui is expected to make his return as a DH. We can't expect him to start hitting like he used to right away, but it's great to finally have him back.
