Detroit Tigers Eliminate New York Yankees

Today the yankees were eliminated from the postseason after losing the division series to the tigers 3 games to 1. New York won game 1 by a score of 8-4 with a pretty good outing by Chien Ming Wang. Derek Jeter went 5-5 in that game with 2 singles, 2 doubles, and a home run. However, after that, the yankees offense shut down and the pitchers couldn't get the job done. Detroit won game 2 by a score of 4-3, game 3 by a score of 6-0, and game 4 by a score of 8-3.

This is the 2nd straight year and 3rd time in 5 years that the yankees lost in the division series, and this time they couldn't even force a game 5. It's a very dissapointing finish to the year. The lineup was incredible on paper, but they were shut down by the tigers' pitching. Also, our starting pitching and middle relief couldn't match up with Detroit's. I'm sure there will be many changes during the offseason to make this team more competitive in the postseason. We'll definitely need better pitching.

So, this concludes the 2006 season. Maybe next year we'll win a 27th world championship. I probably won't update as frequently now during the offseason, but I'll still keep this blog going. Whenever big news such as player signings or departures happen, I'll write about it. It's too bad the year ended on such a bad note, but I'm looking forward to next year. Let's go Yankees in 2007!!!!
