The Final Stretch Begins

The yankees finished august with an 18-12 record. Highlights included the 2006 boston massacre where they swept the red sox in 5 games in fenway park. They went from being tied on August 1st, to having an 8 game lead on August 31st. Overall, it's been a very successful month, that because of the 5 game sweep and a major red sox collapse this month, has broken open the division and most likely knocked the red sox out of the playoff race.

The yankees just won 2 out of 3 games from the tigers, and if Proctor didn't blow the save, we would have swept them. Also, if Farnsworth didn't blow a save against detroit earlier this year, we would have swept the 7 game season series. We've still won the season series vs. the tigers 5-2.

Likely postseason opponents are the detroit tigers, chicago white sox, minnesota twins, and oakland a's. Over the next month, the playoff picture will become much more clear.

I've just added a magic number countdown at the top of the page. I'll try to update it as often as possible. Hopefully that number will be 0 very soon.
