The 2007 Campaign is Underway!!!

Hello readers, the offseason is officially over and I'm ready to start blogging again for the 2007 season. Yesterday, pitchers and catchers started reporting to Legends Field for training camp. Today, they're starting their first workouts. In a few days, all the position players will report, and the first spring training game will be played on March 1st.

I'm very excited for the new year to begin. I'm hoping we can make up for last year's defeat and end our title "drought" this October. The main stories so far are about Bernie Williams and Mariano Rivera. Bernie has rejected the yankees' offer to come to spring training while understanding he would have a very diminished role. He also rejected the offer to be sent to the minors. I can agree with him on that. It's insulting to think of Bernie Williams finishing his career as a minor leaguer. It would be better to just retire.

Mariano's future, as well as Joe Torre's, are also foggy. Both of their contracts expire at the end of this year. They both are saying that they want to worry about this year first before considering where they'll be next year. I'm sure we'll renew Mo for 2008, but I'm not sure if Torre will be back. That decision will have to be a personal one.

When more things start to happen, I'll post about them here. Until next time, Let's Go Yankees!!!!! Get #27 in '07!!!!!

Mid Offseason Post

I know I haven't posted in months, but I was busy and also considering not posting until next year. But I'll make one last post of the year now. This might be my only post this offseason.

A ton of stuff has happened. Since the yankees lost the division series, Joe Torre announced he would stay, Corey Lidle tragically died in a plane crash into a Manhattan skyscraper, Gary Sheffield and Jaret Wright were traded away, Kei Igawa is coming to New York from Japan to pitch next year, and Andy Pettitte is returning!

That's way too much to cover in depth, but I just wanted to have at least one post during the offseason. Pitchers and catchers will report to training camp in mid February, spring training will start in the beginning of March, and the regular season starts at the start of April.

I hope that I can post much more frequently and add images to posts next year. Keep checking back, I may even change the template eventually.

Detroit Tigers Eliminate New York Yankees

Today the yankees were eliminated from the postseason after losing the division series to the tigers 3 games to 1. New York won game 1 by a score of 8-4 with a pretty good outing by Chien Ming Wang. Derek Jeter went 5-5 in that game with 2 singles, 2 doubles, and a home run. However, after that, the yankees offense shut down and the pitchers couldn't get the job done. Detroit won game 2 by a score of 4-3, game 3 by a score of 6-0, and game 4 by a score of 8-3.

This is the 2nd straight year and 3rd time in 5 years that the yankees lost in the division series, and this time they couldn't even force a game 5. It's a very dissapointing finish to the year. The lineup was incredible on paper, but they were shut down by the tigers' pitching. Also, our starting pitching and middle relief couldn't match up with Detroit's. I'm sure there will be many changes during the offseason to make this team more competitive in the postseason. We'll definitely need better pitching.

So, this concludes the 2006 season. Maybe next year we'll win a 27th world championship. I probably won't update as frequently now during the offseason, but I'll still keep this blog going. Whenever big news such as player signings or departures happen, I'll write about it. It's too bad the year ended on such a bad note, but I'm looking forward to next year. Let's go Yankees in 2007!!!!

The Quest for a 27th World Championship Begins

Tonight, the 2006 postseason will finally start. In game 1 of the American League Division Series, Chien Ming Wang will oppose Nate Robertson. Yesterday, Joe Torre released tonight's lineup. Damon will bat first, then Jeter, then Abreu, then Sheffield, Giambi will bat 5th and DH, A-Rod will bat 6th, after him is Matsui, then Posada, then Cano. Hopefully the yankees will get off to a good start tonight. Let's go Yankees!!!!

Regular season over, Yankees will play Detroit in ALDS

The 162 game 2006 regular season is finally over. The yankees finished with a record of 97-65, tying with the mets for the best record in baseball. Today, we lost to the blue jays 7-5, the twins won their game over the white sox, and the tigers were swept by the royal which means we will play the detroit tigers in the division series. This is very good news, because we match up much better against them then the twins.

If it wasn't for 2 blown saves by Proctor and Farnsworth, then we would have won all 7 games against them this year. Also, Randy Johnson is in good shape and he'll pitch in game 3 on friday. The startes for the series are: Chien Ming Wang in game 1, Mike Mussina in game 2, Randy Johnson in game 3, and Jaret Wright in game 4 (if necessary), and if needed, Wang will pitch again in game 5.

I'm ready for the playoffs and hoping for a 27th world championship this year. I'll try to post much more frequently during the postseason. Go Yankees!!!!

Regular Season Almost Over

There are only 4 games remaining in the 2006 regular season. After 158 games, our record is 96-62. This guarantees that we'll finish 2006 with a better record than 2005. We have a 3 game winning streak going now. If we win the next 4 games, we'll have a 100 win season. Also at this moment, we have the best record in all of baseball. We're still battling for homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. I'll post another update in the next few days.

2006 AL East Champions!!!!!

The yankees have won their 9th straight AL east championship tonight. They lost to the blue jays 3-2, but the twins defeated the red sox 8-2 to eliminate them from the divsion and give us the title.

This is our 15th division title in franchise history, our 9th straight, and 10th in the last 11 years. We are going to the postseason for the 12 consecutive year. The players were just celebrating in the clubhouse, and all yankee fans are looking forward to the postseason. The quest for a 27th world championship will begin on October 3rd.
